Earned Income Tax Credit
The Earned Income Tax Credit Program (EIC) is a government benefit for working people with or without dependents. You must file a federal income tax return and have some earned income during the tax year. You may also apply for this tax credit for the past three years, with the understanding that the criteria has recently changed.

Federal Income Tax Preparation Assistance
Some communities have programs to provide older people with free or low-cost income tax preparation assistance. Many of these programs are volunteer organizations, like VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program) and TCE (Tax Counseling for the Elderly).

Homestead Rebate
Rebate for property taxpayers or tenants Homeowners who pay property taxes on their principal residence in New Jersey and whose gross income does not exceed the following:

Independent Living
Information and Referral for home instruction (including Braille), orientation and mobility instruction, eye screening program, medical eye casework, low vision, diabetic and glaucoma services.

The Information and Publications Branch is charged with the responsibility of encouraging taxpayer's to voluntarily comply with their New Jersey tax responsibilities. To meet this goals, the Branch generally provides information and assistance to taxpayers in written format.

However, in some instances, Branch staffers will initiate telephone contact in response to a taxpayer's inquiry.

Information Lines (IRS)
Answers questions regarding items on the tax forms, rules and regulations, and general questions about income tax. Assists people who have fallen behind in their taxes under the No filer Program.
